Aliexpress has been my go-to spot for almost all my online shopping needs for over a year now, never a second thought on the quality of their products and the price tag they offer. Recently I had ordered a pair of running shoes and I got the size wrong while placing the order and didn’t realize until the next day. To my luck, the order had not been dispatched so I can get a refund by canceling the order. In case the order had been dispatched I would have to dispute the order and request a refund.
I’m happy I was quick enough to realize my mistake and cancel my order, if not someone would be getting an early Christmas gift from me. While trying to cancel my order I went through all the cancellation procedures on how exactly they work, how long they take in different scenarios, and what to do if your order shows that it has been canceled during shipping. I’ve put together some important points that are sure to help in any situation where you would have to change or cancel an order on Aliexpress.
How to cancel an order on AliExpress
There are many reasons why you would cancel an order from Aliepxress in my case it was the size, in other cases you might have gotten the color or delivery address wrong. There have been situations where the product seller is taking longer than expected to fulfill the order. Not to worry I have mentioned below how to cancel an order in various situations that you might face.

How to cancel your order while you’re in the middle of the checkout
Your order on Aliexpress can be automatically canceled without the seller having to validate it. This happens during your checkout process while your payment for the product is being processed. During this process, if you wish to cancel the order, go to your order list and click on ” Cancel order” on your selected order as seen in the image below.
Even if the order was canceled in a minute from placing the order, Aliexpress will still go ahead with the payment and then begin the refund process which will take a few days to process.
How to cancel your order if the payment has already been confirmed
If ever the need comes for you to cancel an order right after you’ve made the payment, it is possible to request a cancellation from the same website. The only difference in this situation, when compared to our previous scenario, is that the seller will have to accept the cancellation which is requested by you, which they will process only if the product has not been shipped out.
One thing to keep in mind when requesting cancellation on the site is to choose the option “other reasons” as the rest of the options penalize the seller which might get your request rejected.
What I would suggest if you’re facing this situation is to send a message or email to the seller that you can find below the follower’s options as seen on the image below. Explaining the reasons for your cancellation and requesting them to consider the cancellation.
Will you get your money back if you cancel your order?
When you’ve successfully canceled your order and the seller has not dispatched the product. Aliexpress will process your payment after which they will start the refund procedure which might take a few days but you can be assured it will be done. You can see the status of your refund by opening your order details, then clicking on the “view details” tab where you will find the payment or finance option.
There you will find the status of your refund with three dots to show the present status of the refund. The dot will be lit in orange to show that a particular stage of the refund is done. Once all dots are lit, the money is back in your account.

In the above image, there is the Bus Icon and the Left Arrow Icon. This means.
- Full Refund is product is not received in 90 days
- Returns accepted if product is not as described or buyer keeps the product and discusses the refund amount with the seller

What you can do if the seller refuses to make a refund
In very few cases the seller neglects a refund but when they do it is because either they sent the product already or they don’t want to return the money. One way to be sure you don’t have issues with sellers is by checking their seller rating and customer feedback, this should help you get a clear picture of whom you’re purchasing from.
Aliexpress has a policy where within five business days if the seller does not provide you with a tracking number, you can raise a dispute and request for a refund. The only way to get your refund from the seller would be to dispute against the seller.
If the seller rejects your cancellation, what you can do.
The only right thing here you can do is to get in touch with the seller and negotiate, if the seller has already shipped your product you can’t do much. Creating a dispute does not help here as the seller can easily reject your cancellation and send you the order. If you want to cancel an order do it within two to three days of placing the order. Post which you are at the mercy of the seller.
Will you get a notification if the seller has accepted the cancellation?
As you know most Aliexpress sellers are from around the world and it takes time for them to process the refund and cancellation depending on how you’ve made the payment. When the refund is completed successfully, you will get a completed status shown on the order and a canceled order shown on your order list. Once you’ve seen this status, check your payment method if it has been refunded as it would be reverted back the same way you made the payment.
How to change your order on Aliexpress
This is where I started with Aliexpress cancellation and change order procedure for selecting the wrong shoe size. Sad to say, they do not offer the option to change an order, you can try convincing the seller but in most cases, they ask you to cancel the order and place it again. If you used a coupon to pay for an order will you get it back?
It all depends on the coupon you have and what type it is. if it is a coupon from Aliexpress and has been applied to many products, it can be retrieved if all the products you’ve ordered have been paid for with the coupon. If the coupon has crossed the date of expiration, you will not be able to get it back.
What do you do if the shipment gets canceled by the seller or Aliexpress
If you notice in your order list that one or more items are canceled without you requesting it, chances are it is because the order has failed to be sent during the preparation time or failed to meet airport security standards. A common case I’ve noticed is when the tracking shows status shows sending canceled, this happens when there is a problem with the shipment. It can be a failed pick up from the seller’s warehouse, there can be a storage of stock or the most common is customs issue when leaving Chinese security check.
This issue is completely done by the seller and you have no control over this, you can contact the seller and request them to resend the order immediately. In this case please make sure to take the tracking ID for the package, if you want a refund you will have to raise a dispute and calm your refund.
How to Raise a Dispute for a Refund on AliExpress
All orders fulfilled by AliExpress are protected by their Buyer Protection guarantee. This means that if you have an issue with the quality of the goods and if the seller is not willing to provide you with a refund or replacement, then AliExpress will take on the dispute and try to get it resolved for you.
However, during this process, you are allowed to negotiate with the seller and try to come to terms with them before AliExpress can penalize the seller. You can do this by following the below mentioned steps.
- Access your orders from the My Orders tab.
- Click on the order you wish to raise a dispute.
- Click on Open Dispute under the order.
- You will be presented with a list of questions pertaining to the type of dispute you want to raise.
- Fill up the form and click on the Submit button.
While the dispute is in progress, you can contact the seller and see if you both can come to some sort of agreement. Before it can come to this you have to make sure to always choose the right seller by checking their ratings and customer feedback about the products they sell.
Note: As a buyer, you can raise a dispute 11 days after the order has been shipped and no later than 15 days post delivery of the order.
Change the Shipping Address on AliExpress after Placing an Order
AliExpress does not permit you to change the delivery address on an order once the order has been confirmed. If you’ve managed to enter a wrong address and are wondering what to do then the following points will help you understand how to better tackle this situation.
- Contact the seller – One of the easiest ways to rectify this mistake is by personally contacting the seller and explaining what went wrong. You can ask them if they can have the order shipped to the new address or if the order is non refundable then to process a cancellation so a new order with the correct address can be placed.
- Contact the courier – Since the address can’t be changed, you can resort to contacting the courier company and figuring out where the package is going to be delivered. It depends on the type of shipping method you chose and whether the package requires a signature upon delivery or not.
- Negotiate a refund – Finally, if the above mentioned steps don’t work you can always negotiate a refund or a partial refund with the seller via the AliExpress platform. If the package gets sent back to the seller you can request for a refund and then explain to them that you will place a fresh order with the new address and if they are genuine sellers, then they will agree to the terms.

Yes, you cancel the order only if the seller hasn’t shipped the product out yet where you would have to wait for Aliexpress to revert back the payment. Change of order is not possible, you can request the seller to change the order but chances are he is going to ask you to cancel and reorder.

Simply click on the order, then click Cancel Order on the order details page where you will be prompted to select a reason for cancellation. Your case will be verified and you will receive a response from the seller in 72 hours if the seller does not revert back to you, an auto refund will be processed to your account.

The Buyer Protection period on AliExpress lasts for a period of 15 days from the expected delivery date. Any orders that are delivered post the stipulated time period are eligible for a refund if you wish to raise a complaint.

Yes, if the seller cancels the order then the amount is automatically refunded to the source account. Your bank statement will show that the transaction has been “Voided” and you will not be charged. However, if you were charged then the refund will be processed back in full.
